New health education talks kick off March 31

WINSLOW, Ariz. - In an effort to promote healthy living and provide health education on numerous topics, the Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona (HVCNA) and Little Colorado Medical Center (LCMC) have teamed up to provide a series of free monthly health education talks. The health education talks will be held at the LCMC, located at 1418 N. Williamson Ave.

The talks are hosted by HVCNA Cardiologist Cheryl Martin, M.D., F.A.C.C., who resides in Winslow and cares for patients with heart conditions at the new HVCNA Winslow office. The full-time HVCNA office is conveniently located across the street from LCMC at 1418 N. Williamson Ave., and is open Monday through Friday.

The first talk in the series, Living with Cholesterol, is at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 31 and features Diagnostic Cardiologist Kenneth Bescak, M.D., F.A.C.C. Board-certified in lipidology, Dr. Bescak focuses on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism and its associated disorders. Dr. Bescak specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cholesterol disorders, which can cause atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Approximately one-third of all deaths in the U.S. are attributed to these health concerns.

The second talk in the series, Menopause and Hormone Replacement, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 20 and features Pharmacists Lauren Driebe, R.Ph., and Karen Lieb, R.Ph. The talk will discuss the trends in hormone replacement therapies during and after menopause.

The Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona is a partnership between Flagstaff Medical Center and Verde Valley Medical Center. It combines physician office practices with extensive hospital-based services including diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures and open heart surgery, with offices located in Flagstaff, Camp Verde, Cottonwood, Sedona and Winslow.
