Tuba City School District appoints new board member
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Cecilia Owen, Coconino County Superintendent of Schools, is pleased to announce that Alvin Harvey has been appointed to the Tuba City Unified School District Governing Board.
A District Advisory Committee interviewed candidates for the open board seat last Monday and made their recommendation.
Harvey is a longtime resident of Tuba City and for the past 16 years has owned and operated Tuba City Insurance. He has been a public servant at the local, state and national levels and administered the Tuba City Salvation Army program for the past 16 years. He served on the Tuba City School Board in the mid 1980s and then was appointed again in 2003. He was reelected in 2004 to serve another four-year term.
Harvey was sworn in last Tuesday by Owen.
The appointment fills the seat vacated by Dr. Alan Numkena and runs from Jan. 12 through Dec. 31. The seat will then be on the 2010 November ballot as a two-year term because Numkena's term would have expired in 2012.
