Tuba City networking meeting scheduled

TUBA CITY, Ariz. - Coconino County District 5 Supervisor Lena Fowler will host the next Tuba City networking meeting on Monday, Aug. 30 at St. Jude's Parish Hall from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. DST. The purpose of the meeting is to improve communication and collaboration among all organizations and concerned individuals in the community. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. Attendees are asked to please bring business cards, brochures, newsletters, updates and announcements to share.

During the last meeting on June 14, some of the discussion topics included strengthening the local economy; lack of housing; limited funding for youth programs; public health and public safety; sustainability of the local transfer-refuse station/waste management; water supply; care for the elderly; and Main Street's abandoned buildings.

This meeting also led to the formation of the planning committee that organized and co-sponsored the Fourth of July Community Celebration and fireworks display.

Supervisor Fowler was pleased with the respectable turnout at the last meeting but looks forward to even greater participation from the public at the next meeting.

With that in mind, Supervisor Fowler is asking for participation and input to plan the following activities and initiatives: Fundraising for the Tuba City Fire Department; Establishing a local Emergency Operations Center (EOC); Organizing a regional Native American Economic Development Coalition; Organizing a local Youth Advisory and Leadership Board; Coordinating regional Drought Mitigation meetings for Chapter Officials and various stakeholders; and coordinating a Legislative Work Session for 2011, among many other events in the works.

Additionally, Supervisor Fowler hopes to sponsor free informational workshops for the public on various topics such as Financial Education, Teen Law Awareness, and Community Emergency Response Trainings (CERT/ICS). She is also seeking individuals to appoint to several County commissions and boards to represent District 5. The appointments are excellent opportunities to have a voice in the Coconino County government.

Supervisor Fowler values the opinions of her constituents and hopes that you will be present at this next Tuba City Networking Meeting on Aug. 30.
