Hualapai Tribe offers Annual Route 66 Fun Run Barbecue Saturday
Four-hour event features live entertainment

PEACH SPRINGS - On Saturday the Hualapai Tribe will host an open-pit barbeque at Route 66 Park for the "23rd Annual Route 66 Fun Run" put on by the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona. Route 66 Park is located directly across the "Mother Road" from the Hualapai Lodge in Peach Springs - the Hualapai Nation's Capital. From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. there will be live Native American performances and music.

The meal costs $8.50 and will feature barbeque beef and a variety of side dishes. The money raised during the event goes to the Hualapai Tribe, which keeps the stretch of Historic Route 66 that runs through their reservation beautiful and genuine. Diamond Creek Restaurant inside of the Hualapai Lodge will be open for normal business hours to serve the hundreds of hungry Fun Run participants. Also, all Route 66 souvenirs in the Lodge's gift shop will be 25 percent off.

"The Hualapai Tribe always looks forward to hosting the Fun Run Barbecue. They have participated years more than 10 years now," said Nancy Echeverria, Hualapai Lodge Property Manager. "It has become a tradition we all look forward to year after year. It is always exciting to see the Hualapai people celebrate their heritage and invite others to experience their culture."

The barbecue is aligned with the "Annual Route 66 Fun Run" but participation for that event is not required to purchase a meal. All are welcome to enjoy the food and festivities. For more information guests can call the Hualapai Lodge at (928) 769-2230.
