WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners 15-0 in a 3A North Region softball game played on Tuesday, April 20. The win improved Winslow's record to 22-2 for the season and kept them undefeated in regional play.
Kelly Pugh worked the five innings of the game shortened due to the 10 run mercy rule. She allowed just one hit and one walk with five strikeouts.
Gabby Stacey and Mireya Ulibarri singled to plate Winslow's first run in the bottom of the first inning. In the second inning five hits and three Window Rock errors resulted in nine runs and a 10-0 Winslow lead. Five more hits and three runs in the third inning put the game out of sight at 13-0 in the third inning. The Lady Bulldogs scored their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth on three hits and two errors.
Rebecca Perez led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with a three for three performance. Bernice Gover and Haley Hancock were two for two. Felicia Nagle was three for four. Ulibarri and Jennifer Yazzie were two for three. Stacey was two for four. Kyli Parsons was one for two.
Lady Bulldogs shut out Window Rock Lady Scouts
WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Window Rock Lady Scouts twice in a double header on April 21 by scores of 13-0 and 11-0.
Jennifer Yazzie pitched a near perfect no hit game in the first contest allowing just one walk while fanning nine Lady Scouts. She had a great two games with six hits in six opportunities and three home runs.
Yazzie knocked in the game's first run with a solo homer in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead. The second inning saw Winslow extend the lead to 8-0 on seven hits and an error. Bernice Gover had a home run during the rally. Yazzie hit her second home run of the game in the four-run third inning which also saw a home run by Melissa Jacobs and the lead was increased to 12-0. The final run scored in the fourth inning on two Window Rock errors.
Yazzie was three for three with two home runs and a double. Jacobs was two for two with a home run and a double. Gover, Felicia Nagle and Kyli Parsons were all two for three with Parsons having a double and Gover a home run. Mallory Smith was one for two. Gabby Stacey and Mireya Ulibarri were both one for three with a double apiece.
Kelly Pugh worked the second game and also allowed only one Lady Scout to reach base, this one on the team's only hit of the day. She walked none and struck out seven.
The Lady Bulldogs took a 4-0 lead in the first inning on three singles and a walk, scored a run in the second on a walk and two errors and scored in the third on a home run by Gover. Five hits and an error in the fourth increased the lead to 9-0. An error and a home run by Yazzie in the fifth ended the game due to the 10 run mercy rule.
Yazzie was again three for three with a home run. Ulibarri, Gover and Smith were all two for three with Gover having a home run. Parsons was one for two. Nagle, Jacobs and Perez were one for three with Nagle having a double.
The wins improved Winslow's record to 24-2 for the season and clinched an undefeated regional season and a berth in the semi-finals of the regional tournament at Winslow on Friday.
