3A North Region lead at stake

The lead in the 3A North Region will be decided in Holbrook on Friday when the Winslow Bulldogs travel there to meet the Holbrook Roadrunners. After last Friday's action, those I-40 rivals are the only teams without a regional loss on their record. Both won impressively against regional foes.

Winslow celebrated its Homecoming with a 56-7 rout of the Chinle Wildcats. The win improved the Bulldogs' record to 4-1 for the season and 2-0 in the region.

Holbrook scored a 63-22 win over the Window Rock Scouts at Window Rock to improve to 3-2 for the season and 2-0 in the region. Both of Holbrook's losses were to 3A East Region powers. One was a close 15-6 loss to Snowflake and the other a 57-0 thumping by state title contender Blue Ridge. They bounced back nicely after those losses with regional wins over Monument Valley 40-0 and Window Rock.

Chinle suffered its second straight one-sided loss and fell to 1-4 for the season. The Wildcats are just 0-1 in the region as their other four games were non-regional contests. Probably their best chance for a victory in the region will be this Friday when they host the Ganado Hornets.

The Hornets fell to the Monument Valley Mustangs 43-0 on their home field. It was the fourth one-sided loss for the Hornets in as many games and their second in the region. It was also the second regional game in which they failed to score.

The loss to Holbrook was the first for the Window Rock Scouts in the region and dropped their record to 1-1 in the region and 2-2 for the season. The Scouts have a tough non-regional game on Friday against the Round Valley Elks of the 3A East Region at Eagar. They own a regional win over Tuba City 20-14 and could still be contenders for a state playoff berth.

The Monument Valley Mustangs got their first win of the season with a 43-0 victory over Ganado to improve to 1-4 for the season and 1-1 in the region.  The win still leaves the Mustangs with faint playoff hopes. The Mustangs will host the Tuba City Warriors on Friday.

Their other regional game was a 40-0 loss to Holbrook.

The Tuba City Warriors were the lone 3A North Region team to play a non-regional game on Friday as they lost to River Valley of the 3A West Region

28-7 on the road. The loss left Tuba City with a record of 0-4 for the season and 0-1 in the region. Their loss was to Window Rock in a close game 20-14.
