Winslow-Monument Valley outcome will determine regional champion
The Winslow Bulldogs remained undefeated in the 3A North Region with a perfect 5-0 record with their 54-0 win over the Tuba City Warriors on Friday The victory left the Bulldogs with an 8-1 record for the season. A win this coming Friday at home against the Monument Valley Mustangs would wrap up the regional championship and likely a home playoff game.
The Mustangs lost to 3A East Region powerhouse Snowflake 58-17 on Friday but are just one game behind Winslow in the region with a 4-1 record. The Mustangs fell to 4-5 for the season, but could still claim a share of the regional title with a win at Winslow. Their 3A North Region loss was to Holbrook making a three way tie a possibility for the regional crown.
The Holbrook Roadrunners defeated the Chinle Wildcats 49-18 to move into second place alone until the Winslow-Monument Valley game decides the final three positions in league standing. The win improved Holbrook's record to 6-3 for the season and 5-1 in the region. The Roadrunners will finish the season 5-1 in the region as their remaining game is a non-regional affair at Chino Valley. The Roadrunners could wind up in a three-way tie for first place if Monument Valley beats Winslow, but would be in second alone should Winslow prevail.
The Warriors and Wildcats will meet at Chinle in a battle for last place in the region. Both teams have lost all five regional games and all nine of their contests for the season.
The Window Rock Scouts improved to 3-2 in the region with their 28-18 win over Chinle on Friday. The Scouts are 3-6 for the season going into their final contest as they host the Ganado Hornets on Friday. Ganado is 2-3 in the region and 2-7 for the season after their loss to Holbrook.
Neither of these teams have playoff possibilities, but a Ganado win would leave them tied while a Window Rock win would assure the Scouts of fourth place in the region.
