Letter: Congratulations to both Georgianna Brown and Alyssa Fredericks

To the editor:

It is with extreme pride that I notify the Navajo-Hopi Observer that in a recent issue, your reporter erred in stating that Ms. Georgianna Brown is the only Hopi/Tewa who has a graduate degree in sports medicine.

My daughter, Ms. Alyssa Fredericks, Hopi, from Polacca and Kykotsmovi, respectively, graduated from A.T. Still University in Mesa in August with a masters degree in athletic training, sports medicine.

She, too, is able to work with any professional sports team/organization in the United States.

Ms. Fredericks is an alumna of Hopi High School in Polacca and received her bachelors degree from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. She is presently employed with Durango High School as an athletic trainer.

I say congratulations to both of these young ladies of my nation and that I too am very proud of Ms. Brown's accomplish-ments. They (our youth) make our nation proud and hopefully inspire others to pursue careers in this field.

One challenge I would like to see these ladies undertake is to see who makes the best piki bread. Sports medicine doesn't have a chance in that category.

Thank you to the NHO for the continued coverage of our youths' accomplishments in their lives.

Arvin Fredericks
