Winslow Bulldogs beat Window Rock, 65-12

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs had no trouble with  the Window Rock Scouts after the first quarter of a 65-12 victory in Winslow on Friday. The win allowed Winslow to remain undefeated in the 3A North Region. The Bulldogs improved their record to 6-1 for the season and 4-0 in the region. Window Rock fell to 2-4 for the season and 1-2 in the region.

Winslow only led 14-6 after the first quarter but had built a 49-12 advantage by the half and had the final 65-12 score on the board after three quarters.

The Bulldogs scored on their second possession of the game on a 40 yard pass from Kraig Shirley to Tevin Renfro. Aaron Martin converted for a 7-0 lead with 3:44 left in the period.

The Window Rock Scouts scored almost immediately after that  on an 80 yard run by Joshua Pablo. The conversion run failed and Winslow still led 7-6.

Chayse Russell scored with just seconds left in the quarter on a four yard run. The conversion put the Bulldogs on top 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Window Rock scored on a beautiful pass and lateral play that covered 54 yards early in the second period. LaMar Peterson passed to Ote Manson who then tossed a lateral to Pablo for the touchdown. The conversion attempt failed and Winslow still led 14-12.

Russell scored again on a five yard run and the kick increased the Winslow lead to 21-12 still early in the second period.

A bad snap over the Window Rock punter's head resulted in a safety for Winslow that increased the lead to 23-12.

A 53 yard run by Shirley with still over eight minutes left in the half gave Winslow a 30-12 lead after the successful conversion.

Tevin Renfro scored his second touchdown of the game on a 73 yard pass from Shirley but the conversion failed and Winslow led 36-12.

The Bulldogs got on the board again when Wendell Carter scored on a three yard run and the conversion increased the Winslow lead to 43-12.

Shirley hit Renfro with a 45 yard pass for the last score of the first half and Winslow led 49-12 at the intermission.

The second half didn't start any better for Window Rock when Renfro returned the second half kickoff 70 yards for his fourth touchdown of the game and a 55-0 lead after the conversion failed.

The last touchdown came when Russell scored his third touchdown on a 29 yard run and the conversion increased the lead to 62-12.

The final score came on an Aaron Martin field goal of 17 yards to put the 65-12 final score on the boards. The fourth quarter was scoreless with the running clock.

Winslow will be at Sedona Red Rock in its final non-regional game on Friday. Window Rock will host Monument Valley. Sedona Red Rock is 0-7 for the season after a 55-14 loss to Wickenburg on Friday.
