Winslow alone atop 3A North

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Holbrook Roadrunners 38-16 at Holbrook on Friday to take the lead in the 3A North Region. The game was close at 6-0 at the half with the Bulldogs leading. It wasn't actually until the fourth quarter that the scoring grew heavy. Winslow had led 22-0 going into the final period but both of their third quarter scores came within the last three minutes. Although outplayed, the Roadrunners looked like a good bet to be runners up in the region and a state playoff team. Winslow is 5-1 for the season and 3-0 in the region. Holbrook is 3-3 or the season and 2-1 in the region.

Winslow will meet the Window Rock Scouts at Winslow on Friday. Window Rock lost a non-regional game to the Round Valley Elks 61-16 at Eagar on Friday. It was the second straight game in which the Scouts have given up 60 points or more and they fell to 2-3 for the season and 1-1 in the region. Their regional loss was 63-22 to Holbrook. The Scouts could still be a playoff contender but face a tough climb to reach that goal.

Holbrook will be at Tuba City on Friday and should be favored over the Warriors. Tuba City was thumped by Monument Valley 54-2 and fell to 0-5 for the season and 0-2 in the region. They are probably already eliminated from any chance of reaching the playoffs.

Monument Valley will host the Chinle Wildcats on Friday. The Mustangs are 2-4 for the season but 2-1 in the region. The Mustangs lost to Holbrook in the region and own victories over Ganado and Tuba City. They still have the possibility of being a playoff team in the weak region.

The Ganado Hornets won for the first time this season on Friday with a 35-7 victory over the Chinle Wildcats at Chinle. The win left Ganado with a 1-4 record for the season and a 1-2 mark in the region. The Hornets will host the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets on Friday in what will likely be a breather for the top rated 3A East Region Yellowjackets.

Chinle fell to 1-5 for the season and 0-2 in the region with the loss to Ganado. The Wildcats will be at Holbrook and a likely heavy underdog to the Roadrunners on Friday.

Winslow appears in control of the region with a 3-0 regional record and just 1-1 Window Rock, 0-2 Tuba City and 2-1 Monument Valley left to play in the region. Holbrook and Monument Valley are tied in regional standings with 2-1 records but Holbrook has a win over the Mustangs.

Holbrook has 0-2 Tuba City, 0-2 Chinle and 1-2 Ganado left and looks like a likely second place team in the region. Window Rock is 1-1 but has regional games left with 3-0 Winslow 2-1 Monument Valley, 0-2 Chinle and 1-2 Ganado. Ganado is 1-2 in the region and has games left with 0-2 Tuba City, 2-1 Holbrook and 1-1 Window Rock. Chinle and Tuba City are both 0-2 in the region and not likely to see the playoffs. The Wildcats have 2-1 Monument Valley, 2-1 Holbrook, 1-1 Window Rock and 0-2 Tuba City yet to play in the region. Tuba City has games left with 2-1 Holbrook, 1-2 Ganado, 3-0 Winslow and 0-2 Chinle.
