Havasupai Elementary makes AYP

SUPAI, Ariz. - Havasupai Elementary School is a small Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) school located at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. It is one of the most remote schools in the nation, and has never made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) before. But that has changed.

Last school year, the staff and students worked very hard and their efforts have paid off. According to new principal Greg Mooring, "If you raise the level of instruction, then the academic achievement of all students will rise."

Mooring credits all the teachers and acting principal, Carrie Watahomigie, for making AYP. A celebration banquet is planned in the coming weeks.
