Frosh football, volleyball dropped at Winslow High

WINSLOW, Ariz. - Winslow High School has announced its fall schedules for the 2009 season with no freshman football or volleyball teams included. Both sports will continue to field varsity and junior varsity teams. The varsity schedules for both sports are in another article and the junior varsity volleyball team will play on the same dates and places as the varsity except for tournaments.

The junior varsity football team will open its season against Round Valley High School's junior varsity at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27 at Eagar. The team will also be on the road for its second game at Kayenta against Monument Valley on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m.

The first junior varsity home game will be on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. against Snowflake. That will be followed by another home game against Ganado at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17.

Winslow will play at Chinle on Saturday, Sept. 26 at noon. The team will return to Winslow on Thursday, Oct. 1 to face the Holbrook junior varsity at 6 p.m.

The final road game will be at Window Rock on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. The final game of the season will be back at Winslow on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. against Tuba City.

The junior varsity volleyball team will begin almost all of its home games at 5:30 p.m. with varsity contests to follow at 6:30 p.m.

The only August game is against Round Valley at Eagar on Thursday, Aug. 27.

September home games are against Window Rock (9-1), Chinle (9-3), Holbrook (9-8) and Greyhills (9-26). September away games are against Chinle (9-15), Tuba City (9-17), Window Rock (9-23) and Show Low (9-29).

Home games in October include contests with Ganado (10-1), Show Low (10-8), and Tuba City (10-13 and Valley Sanders 910-22). Away games in October include contests against Monument Valley in a double header at Kayenta on Oct. 10, Hopi (10-15) and Holbrook (10-20).
