Wildcats tear up Bulldogs in boys game

CHINLE, Ariz. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs stayed undefeated with a 70-61 victory over the Chinle Lady Wildcats in a 3A North Region basketball game played at Chinle on Tuesday. The win improved Winslow's record to a perfect 18-0 for the season and 5-0 in the region.

The Lady Bulldogs had a double-digit lead at the end of the first period but had fallen behind 28-26 by intermission. Winslow enjoyed a productive third quarter and went back in front 51-42 during that period. The fourth quarter was played on even terms, which preserved the Winslow victory.

Chrissandria Jackson poured in 30 points for the Lady Bulldogs to lead all scorers. Samantha Sam with 11 points and Kourtney Shirley with 10 were also in double figures for Winslow.

Nicole Tsosie led Chinle with 17 points. Taneesha Watson with 14 points and Tia Gorman with 12 were also in double figures for the Lady Wildcats.

Boys game

The Chinle Wildcats dealt the Winslow Bulldogs a decisive blow with an 87-51 stomping in a 3A North basketball game played at Chinle on Tuesday. The defeat dropped the Bulldogs to a 12-6 record for the season and a 3-2 mark in the region.

Winslow actually led at the end of the first quarter 22-19 but was outscored in each of the three remaining periods. Chinle had built a 41-33 advantage by the intermission and was in command 60-43 after three quarters. The Wildcats continued to score at will in the final period and turn the game into a rout.

Shaquille Tsedah led all scorers with 23 points for Chinle. Marcus Claw was only a point behind Tsedah with 22 points for the Wildcats. Koyai Clauschee with 18 points and Beau Natay and Denzel Harvey with 15 each were also in double figures for Chinle.

Dale Dixon was the only Bulldog in double figures with 15 points. Kraig Shirley, Lakota Shirley and Micheaux Begaii all scored eight points for Winslow.
