FMC receives grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Flagstaff Medical Center Therapy Services Department and Breast Cancer Resource Center recently received a $61,380 grant from the Phoenix Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This is the sixth year FMC has received a Komen grant.

This grant will provide funds so patients with breast cancer can receive lymphedema treatment, massage therapy, education, post-surgical and mastectomy undergarments and prostheses.

The grant also provides additional funding for travel and lodging for patients who live outside the Flagstaff area.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women, affecting one out of every eight women.

FMC's Therapy Services Department and the Breast Cancer Resource Center, a part of the Cancer Center of Northern Arizona, are devoted to making an impact on breast cancer in our community through prevention and early detection.

The Phoenix Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure serves Central and Northern Arizona, and has a volunteer base of more than 1,500. Since 1993, the Phoenix Affiliate has granted more than $13 million to breast cancer treatment, education, prevention and outreach programs in addition to breast cancer research.
