Roadrunners outrun Bulldogs in 3A North action

HOLBROOK, Ariz. - The Holbrook Roadrunners defeated the Winslow Bulldogs 75-67 in a 3A North Region basketball game played at Holbrook on Tuesday. The loss dropped Winslow to 16-8 for the season and 6-4 in the 3A North Region.

Holbrook sped to a 22-16 first quarter lead and had increased the margin to 43-32 by the intermission. The lead was cut to 55-47 by the end of the third period but the Roadrunners held that margin in the final period.

Jerel Dixon led all scorers with 22 points for the Roadrunners. Kory Korperich was also in double figures with 16 points for Holbrook. Stacey Berg led Winslow with 19 points. Kraig Shirley with 17 points and Dale Dixon with 13 were also in double figures for the Bulldogs.

Bulldogs lose at Window Rock, win at Monument Valley

The Winslow Bulldogs ended their regular season schedule with an 85-42 loss at Window Rock on Thursday and a 61-48 win over Monument Valley at Winslow on Friday. The results left the Bulldogs with a 17-9 record for the season and a 7-5 mark in the 3A North Region.

The Bulldogs will play their first 3A North Region Tournament game on Wednesday at Chinle. The Arizona Interscholastic Association has adopted a new rule that all regional tournament games will be played at the same site or this game would have been at Winslow under the old format.

On Thursday, the Window Rock Scouts more than doubled the Bulldogs 85-42 in an embarrassing loss at Window Rock. The Scouts opened up a commanding 25-16 lead in the first quarter and had expanded it to an embarrassing 44-20 advantage by the half. The lead was 60-35 after three quarters.

Daniel Begay led all scorers with 22 points for the Scouts. Window Rock had Len Antonio with 15 points and Brandon Lee with 14 also in double figures. Matt Begay and Stacey Berg led Winslow with only eight points each.
