WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs completed their regular season schedule undefeated with wins over Window Rock 63-46 at Window Rock on Thursday and Monument Valley 63-57 at Winslow on Friday. The victories improved Winslow's record to 25-0 for the season and 12-0 in the 3A North Region.
The Lady Bulldogs also won the Winslow Winter Classic and Gallup Invitational Tournaments during their perfect season. Their first place finish in the 3A North Region assures the team of a berth in the Arizona 3A Conference Championship Tournament and a berth in the semi-finals of the regional tournament on Friday and Saturday at Chinle. Winslow will play a team yet to be determined at 6 p.m. on Friday at Chinle.
Against Window Rock on Thursday, Winslow had built a double-digit 16-6 lead by the end of the first quarter, but saw the Lady Scouts cut the margin to a close 28-24 by the intermission. The lead was back up to 41-33 by the end of the third period and the Lady Bulldogs continued to pull away in the final period.
Kourtney Shirley led all scorers with 20 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Samantha Sam was also in double figures for Winslow with 16 points. Ashley Mitchell paced Window Rock with 19 points. Myra Watchman was also in double figures with 13 points for the Lady Scouts.
Against Monument Valley on Friday the Lady Bulldogs started strong and led 14-9 after the first quarter and were up by double digits 29-14 at the half. The margin was a still substantial 44-30 after three quarters.
Chrissandria Jackson led the Winslow attack with 26 points. Kourtney Shirley was also in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points. Bradley Nash led Monument Valley with 18 points. Crystal Todachine was also in double figures with 10 points for the Lady Mustangs.
Lady Bulldogs stay unbeaten with win at Holbrook
The Winslow Lady Bulldogs kept their undefeated season in tact with a 77-48 victory over the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners in a 3A North Region basketball game in Holbrook last Tuesday.
The win was the 23rd of the season for the Lady Bulldogs who are also undefeated in the 3A North Region with a 10-0 record.
Winslow took quick command in the first quarter and led 32-6 at the end of that quarter. The margin was 51-16 at the half and 62-33 after three quarters.
Thirteen players scored for Winslow as opposed to only eight for Holbrook. April Lester of Holbrook, though, led all scorers with 13 points. Nicole Baldwin was also in double figures for the Lady Roadrunners with 10 points. Paige Shirley paced Winslow with 11 points. Kourtney Shirley and Melissa Jacobs were also in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points apiece.
