FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - At their regular meeting on Dec. 1, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors elected a new Chair, District 2 Supervisor Liz Archuleta; and a new Vice Chair, District 4 Supervisor Mandy Metzger. Archuleta replaces outgoing Chair Matt Ryan, who represents District 3.
Supervisors Archuleta and Metzger will serve their terms from Jan. 1 through Sept. 30. The Chair is normally elected at the end of the year for the upcoming calendar year. However, since there are five board members elected to four year terms, the term of the Chair was shortened to a nine month period. This allows each Board member the opportunity to serve as Chair during their term in office.
The five-member board also agreed that the Vice Chair will automatically assume the role of Chair at the end of each term.
"I'm honored to serve as Chairwoman and am pleased to represent the Board and Coconino County in 2010. Each time I serve in this position, I learn so much more about the County and our residents," said Archuleta. "We face many challenges in 2010 and I'm looking forward to working with my fellow Board members, the County Manager, County staff and our citizens to work through the tough decisions and budget issues we all face. We will work together to address these challenges with creative and productive solutions. "
