WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Payson Longhorns 11-6 in a non-region baseball game played in Winslow on April 11. The win improved Winslow's record to 14-5-2.
Tommy Gomez got the win working six innings and allowing six runs, five of which were earned, on nine hits and two walks. Ty Hancock worked an inning in relief and gave up an unearned run on no hits and a walk.
Payson took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a single and a double. The Bulldogs took control 4-1 in the bottom of the second on a single by Hancock, four errors and a single by Bubba Cuellar. Payson tied the score in the top of the third on a walk, a double and a home run.
The Bulldogs went ahead for good 8-4 in the bottom of the third on doubles by Anthony Huerta and Hancock, a walk, a double by Tommy Gomez and an error and a walk. The lead grew to 10-4 in the bottom of the fourth on a walk and a home run by Huerta. Payson cut the lead to 10-6 in the top of the fifth on two singles and an error. Winslow scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to end the scoring. The score came without a hit on two walks, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly.
Cuellar was two for two. Hancock was three for four with a double. Huerta was two for three with a double and a home run. Gomez was one for three with a double. Roman Guzman was also one for three.
