Scouts, Bulldogs winner likely regional champ
WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs will journey to Window Rock to meet the Window Rock scouts in a game that is likely to determine the winner of the 3A North Region. The Scouts have the best record in the region at 6-1 for the season and are 4-0 in the region.
Their only loss was to Alchesay of the 3A East Region. Winslow is also perfect in the region at 4-0 but is only 4-3 for the season. The Bulldogs lost to Snowflake, Round Valley and Payson in non-regional games. All of the losses for both teams were to quality opponents.
All of the other teams in the region have at least two losses and those with just two losses have lost to both Winslow and Window Rock.
The Scouts have wins over Chinle, Monument Valley, Ganado and Holbrook. Their 14-0 victory over Holbrook was the key win of the season to date. All left for them after Winslow is a game at Tuba City.
Winslow has victories over Monument Valley, Ganado, Holbrook and Chinle. The Bulldogs will have only a non-regional game and a game with Tuba City left after the Window Rock contest.
Holbrook still has three regional games left on their schedule with Chinle, Monument Valley and Ganado. They are 1-2 with a win over Tuba City and losses to Winslow and Window Rock.
Tuba City is 1-3 in the region with a win over Ganado and losses to Chinle, Holbrook and Monument Valley. They still have to play a non-regional game against Sedona Red Rock and the regional leaders Window Rock and Winslow.
Ganado is 0-3 in the region with losses to Tuba City, Winslow and Window Rock. They still have regional games left with Monument Valley, Chinle and Holbrook.
Monument Valley is 1-2 in the 3A North with a regional win over Tuba City and losses to Winslow and Window Rock. The Mustangs still have games with Ganado, Holbrook and Chinle.
Chinle has a 1-2 record in the 3A North with a win over Tuba City and losses to Window Rock and Winslow. The Wildcats have games left with Holbrook, Ganado and Monument Valley.
The Chinle at Holbrook game could have playoff implications. Ganado at Monument Valley might also figure in that equation. It is likely that only three teams from the 3A North will be in the state playoffs and it appears that Winslow and Window Rock will likely be two of them.
