The Winslow Bulldogs dominated the Tuba City Warriors from the opening kickoff and came away with a 58-6 victory at Winslow on Friday in the final regular season game for both teams. The win was the seventh straight for the Bulldogs and left the team undefeated at 6-0 in the 3A North Region and 7-3 for the season.
Winslow scored first when Matthew Smith returned the opening kickoff 95 yards. Stacey Berg booted the first of seven straight conversions. One play after a fumble recovery at the Warrior 12 yard line, Kraig Shirley ran for the second Winslow touchdown. The final score of the first period came on a 35 yard field goal by Berg on the play after Smith made a fair catch of a Warrior punt. The field goal meant that the team had scored on one play in each of their first three possessions.
Shirley hit Smith on an eight yard aerial in the second quarter and Chayse Russell ran 11 yards for the second score of the period. Eddie Montano recovered a Warrior fumble in the end zone moments later. Berg ran 69 yards on an end around to increase the half time lead to 45-0. His miss of a 57 yard field goal attempt on the last play of the half was the only possession in which Winslow did not score.
Wyatt DeWitt ran one yard for the only score of the third quarter. Shirley passed 35 yards to Payden Zufelt for the only Winslow touchdown of the fourth period. The entire second half was played with a running clock.
Tuba City scored its only touchdown on a 79 yard pass with less than a minute left to put the 58-6 score on the boards.
