This year's Fourth of July weekend marked 75 years for the Hopi Festival of Arts and Culture at the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. What began in the 1930s as a weekend event has become the single oldest Hopi venue in the world focused on traditional Hopi values of humility, cooperation, respect, and continued earth stewardship. Miss Hopi 2007-2008 Kassondra Ryanna Yaiva and First Attendant Emmalynn Mae Thompson attended the festival as goodwill ambassadors and to raise awareness of health and wellness issues affecting Hopi people. The Nuvatukya' ovi Sinom Dance Group performed the Supai dance celebrating the Havasupai people and the Polhikmana or water maiden dance. Over the past 75 years, this event has become a regional tradition. Photos by Somana Yaiva/NHO and Michele Mountain/MNA.
