Tuba City School District Governing Board recall petitions insufficient

FLAGSTAFF - Coconino County Elections has completed the signature verification of recall petitions on three Tuba City School District Governing Board members-and have found all three petitions contain an insufficient number of signatures. Therefore, board members Linda Honahni, Alvin Harvey and Jack Begay will not stand for recall at the next regularly scheduled election.

On March 21, 2008, the Committee for Community Action and Recall filed over 800 signatures for each of the three Governing Board members. The minimum number needed for recall is 673 signatures. The petitions were processed according to Arizona State statute and signatures were deemed invalid for multiple reasons. The main reason on all three sets of petitions was that there were over 120 signatures of citizens who were not registered to vote.

The chairperson of the recall committee has been notified and the Elections Office will return the original petitions and certifications to the recall committee-indicating the number of valid and invalid signatures. The recall committee will also receive a detailed list for each petition that shows the line number, name of the signer, and the reason the signature is invalid.
