Hopi High cross country teams place at Peaks Invitational

FLAGSTAFF-The Hopi High boys cross country team placed fourth at the Peaks Invitational in Flagstaff Sept. 8.

Tuba City High School won the race with 93 points, Window Rock grabbed second with 135 points, Prescott finished third with 138 points and the Bruins finished fourth with 146 points.

The rest of the field finished in this order: Singua, fifth, 158; Alhambra, sixth, 165; Ganado, seventh, 218; Mesquite, eighth, 235; Chinle, ninth, 247; Flagstaff, tenth, 263; Cesar Chavez, 11th, 271; Bradshaw Mountain, 12th, 275; Winslow, 13th, 296; Coconino, 14th, 326; Alchesay, 15th, 333; Page, 16th, 395; Centennial, 17th, 401; Chaparrel, 18th, 436; Monument Valley, 19th, 440; Willow Canyon, 20th, 565; Blue Ridge, 21st, 568.

Hopi High placed seventh in the girls race.

Mountain Ridge took top honors with 78 points, Chinle grabbed second with 97, Flagstaff finished third with 103, Catalina took fourth with 172, Tuba City finished fifth with 190, Winslow placed sixth with 206 and the Lady Bruins placed seventh with 216.

The rest of the field showed: Page, eighth, 222; Coconino, ninth, 239; Mesquite, tenth, 277; Chaparral, 11th, 285; Window Rock, 12th, 334; Prescott, 13th, 363; Ganado, 14th, 364; Brashaw Mountain, 15th, 364; Goldwater, 16th, 388; Sinagua, 17th, 414; Yuma Catholic, 18th, 430; Alchesay, 19th, 460; Willlow Canyon, 20th, 505; and Centennial, 21st, 518.

Nadya Bishton from Mountain Ridge won the race. Deann Honanie had Hopi's best finish as she grabbed fifth place.

The others placing for Hopi were Erica Namoki, 42nd; Snow Josytewa, 47th; Povi Lomayaoma, 60th; Monica Honyumptewa, 76th; Desiree Torivio, 77th; Tracy Billy, 99th.
