Lady Wildcats upset Lady Bruins in volleyball opener

CHINLE-Chinle High School beat Hopi in volleyball action Thursday night.

The Lady Wildcats won 25-19, 25-15 and 25-15.

Hopi High Assistant Coach Shaun Grant said the match was a good starting point for the Lady Bruins.

He said Annaleese Nasafotie, Ivy Honie and Kelly Keith played well for Hopi.

Coach Grant said the Lady Bruins had problems with their offense.

"Our offense stalled. We tried to force too much. At times, we showed what we could do, but we hit a lot of balls out of bounds or into the net," he said.

Coach Grant said the Hopi High defense performed well.

"We were able to dig a lot of balls out and keep them in play," he said.

Coach Grant said Hopi High played well in streaks.

"Our passing was good in streaks, but there were other times we would make our setters work to get to the ball," he said.

Coach Grant said the Lady Bruins will improve as they get more confidence.

"When we get down, we lose our motivation and the other team scores points quickly. If we can keep our drive up for the entire game then we'll have a good year," he said.
