Page Unified School District Governing Board vacancy announced
The Coconino County School Superintendent Cecilia Owen accepted the resignation of Page Unified School District (PUSD) governing board member Robert LaPlante. The resignation is effective Dec. 31.
LaPiente served on the PUSD Governing Board for ten years and will pursue other projects and life experiences.
Arizona Revised Statutes § 15 302.3 outlines the county school superintendent's responsibilities in filling a vacant governing board position. Vacancies may either be filled by an appointment or by a special election.
Owen determined that an appointment to complete the remainder of the term will best meet the needs of the community and the school district. The term of this appointment will begin upon the date of appointment and will continue through Dec. 31, 2008.
This position will appear on the 2008 November General Election ballot as a regular four year term expiring in 2012.
To qualify as a governing board member the applicant must have been a resident of the Page Unified School District for at least one year prior to the appointment and must be a registered voter in the state of Arizona. Please note that according to state statute, no employee of a school district, or their spouse, may hold membership on a governing board of a school district by which they are employed.
An Advisory Committee consisting of district residents as well as a current board member will be assembled to advise Owen on the appointment.
The Advisory Committee will interview those interested in serving on the Page Unified School District Governing Board and will present their recommendation(s) to Owen who will then make the final decision.
Those interested in serving on the PUSD governing board should submit a letter of interest as well as a resume to Cecilia Owen, Coconino County Superintendent of Schools, 2384 N. Steves Blvd., Flagstaff, 86004, no later than 5 p.m., Dec. 21, 2007.
