Quintina Begay faced the minimum of 15 batters as the Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Greyhills Lady Knights 11-0 in a 3A North Region softball game played in Tuba City on Thursday. The contest was shortened to five innings due to the 'mercy' rule. Winslow improved its record to 15-4-1 for the season and to 1-0 in the region. The Lady Bulldogs will not play again until Tuesday, April 3 when they host the Tuba City Lady Warriors.
Begay struck out six of the 15 batters she faced to keep the Lady Knights off the base paths.
Winslow took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a triple by Mariah Guzman and singles by Felicia Nagle, Jennifer Yazzie and Jennifer Estudillo.
The margin grew to 7-0 in the fourth inning Begay singled and Kyli Parsons doubled. Alex Magana, Guzman and Nagle all singled and Yazzie homered. Estudillo also single in the inning.
The final four runs scored in the top of the fifth Shaeleen Miller and Begay singled, Guzman and Nagle doubled and Yazzie tripled to account for the scoring.
Yazzie was four for four with a home run and a triple. Guzman was three for four with a double and a triple. Nagle was two for three with a pair of doubles. Begay and Parsons were two for three with Parsons having a double. Estudillo was two for four. Magana and Miller were each one for three.
