Lady Bulldogs Third in 3C's/ Bojo's Tournament

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs finished third in the 3C's/Bojo's Invitational Tournament played in Winslow on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The results left Winslow with a record of 12-4-1 for the season. Chino Valley won the tournament with a 4-2 win over Snowflake in the Championship Game. Winslow won three games in pool play and defeated Round Valley 7-3 before losing to Chino Valley 4-3 in the championship bracket semi-finals. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Holbrook 9-3 in the third place game.

Winslow had an easy time in pool play with wins 5-0 over Greyhills, 22-0 over Alchesay and 9-2 over Pinon. The first and third games went five innings; the second game lasted only three innings.

Jennifer Yazzie got the win over Greyhills with an eight strikeout, two-hit shutout. Winslow took advantage of walks and errors to score five runs on just three hits. Quintina Begay, Felicia Nagle and Yazzie were all one for three.

Begay got the win against Alchesay in a laugher. Winslow had 17 hits in the rout. Nagle was four for four with a triple. Kyli Parsons was four for four with a double. Yazzie was three for three. Begay and Jennifer Estudillo each had a double in one at bat. Jessica Jacobs, Shaeleen Miller, Gypsi Gover and Bernice Gover were all one for one.

Yazzie got her second win against Pinon giving up no hits and fanning five. The only Pinon runs were unearned. Nagle was three for three with a triple. Estudillo was two for two. Christina Rogers was one for one. Yazzie was two for three with a pair of doubles. Mariah Guzman was one for two. Kyli Parsons had a double in three trips.

Winslow won its first game of the Championship Bracket on Friday night with a 7-3 verdict over Round Valley. Yazzie got the win in relief of Begay. The Lady Elks got three runs on four hits in an inning and two thirds off Begay. Yazzie gave up three hits in three and a third innings, fanned seven and walked three while keeping Round Valley off the scoreboard.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a walk to Alex Magana and a triple by Nagle.

Round Valley took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second on a double, three singles and an error.

Winslow got a run back in the top of the third when Magana walked, stole second and scored on two wild pitches.

The Lady Bulldogs took the lead for good with a five run top of the fourth. Magana doubled following three walks and an error.

Winslow again took advantage of walks and miscues, making the most of only two hits. Magana was one for one with a double. Nagle was one for three with a triple.

Chino Valley ended Winslow's title hopes with a 4-3 win over the Lady Bulldogs in a semi-final game on Saturday.

Yazzie took the loss, giving up four runs, three of which were earned on just one hit. Five walks did most of the damage in her two and two thirds innings. Begay did well.
