The Winslow Bulldogs gave their Homecoming crowd something to cheer about with a 31-0 win over the Holbrook Roadrunners that left them alone atop the 3A North Region. The win evened Winslow's record at 3-3 for the season and increased their regional record to a perfect 3-0. Holbrook fell to 3-3 for the season and 1-1 in the region.
The Bulldogs drove to the Holbrook 13 before losing the ball on downs on their first possession, but got good field possession after holding the Roadrunners near their own goal line. John Gonzales climaxed a 49 yard drive with a two yard run with 4:15 left in the first period. Stacey Berg converted for a 7-0 Winslow lead.
Gonzales scored the second of three touchdowns on a 10 yard run with 8:25 left until intermission. Berg converted for a 14-0 Winslow lead.
The Bulldogs took advantage of a Kurt Ramsey fumble recovery and run that set up the final score of the half. Berg booted a 23 yard field goal that gave Winslow a 17-0 half time lead.
The third quarter saw only one score, a four yard run by Paul Guzman that was set up by a fumbled snap by the Holbrook punter that gave Winslow the ball at the Roadrunner four. The conversion failed and Winslow led 23-0 with 2:35 left in the quarter.
Gonzales got his third touchdown of the game with 10:06 left in the contest on a 10 yard run. Berg completed the scoring with a two point conversion run.
The Bulldogs will journey to Chinle on Friday to meet the Wildcats in another 3A North Region contest.
