Woody Fire evacuation lifted

FLAGSTAFF —Effective 4 p.m. today (June 15), the Woody Fire evacuation is lifted. Two road closures will remain in effect — Woody Mountain Road from West Route 66 to Kiltie Lane and W. Rt. 66 from Woody Mountain Road to Flagstaff Ranch.

Affected evacuated developments include Woody Mountain Campground, Kit Carson RV/Mobile Home Park, Pine Springs, Railroad Springs, Hidden Hollow, Dunnam Road and Wildwood Hills Mobile Home Park.

Access into these areas is limited to residents and businesses only. All others will not be allowed to visit the area until further notice. Residents are advised to go to the nearest roadblock and follow re-entry instructions in an orderly manner.

The American Red Cross will keep the Flagstaff High School shelter open until Friday at 8 a.m. Any evacuee who may have health concerns with lingering smoke, or other evacuees, may remain at the shelter until then.

If residents have lost pets, they should contact local animal shelters to locate their pets.

The fire is 100 percent contained but citizens will continue to see smoke, stumps burning and small flames. Fire crews are still working within the fire area and citizens are advised to use caution. The cause of fire has been determined to be a spark from a blown steel-belted radial tire.

Residents will need to remove the fire retardant used to suppress the fire. Power washing is the most effective means of removal (all water restrictions in the area have been lifted). The retardant is non-toxic but should be removed as soon as possible for ease of removal. For more information on the fire retardant, visit www.coconino.az.gov and click on Woody Fire Update.

Neighbors are encouraged to help their neighbors.

If citizens have fire-related questions or concerns, they may call the Flagstaff Police Department general information line at 556-2316. If more information is needed, call 556-2300. After 7 p.m., call Coconino County Sheriff/Flagstaff Police dispatch at 774-1414.
