14 ENIS students receive both Dual Language and English only creative awards

TUBA CITY -- Fourteen outstanding students from TC District's ENIS schools walked away with 1st to 3rd place awards from the Coconino Country Poetry contest this year.

Winners from 4th, 5th and 6th grade in the dual language and English only language categories include:

¥ 4th Grade: Veronica Foley, 1st Place -- "I'm from Many Things", teacher Pam Jens; Brandon Troglis, 2nd Place -- "In My Heart", teacher Pam Jensen

¥ Dual Language: Danielle Dixon, 1st Place -- "Purple Mountains" teacher Evelyn Yazzie; Alec Sandoval, 2nd Place -- "Me and the Hopi", teacher Bobby Robbins; Skylar Begay, 3rd Place -- "Clouds Hunt Buffalo", teacher Pam Jensen; Rochelle Velez, Honorable Mention -- " Quiet Place" teacher Pam Jensen

¥ 5th Grade: Isabella Robbins, 1st Place -- "The Everything Soul," teacher Lisa Dejolie; Megan Billy, 3rd Place - "The Ocean Tides," teacher Lisa Dejolie.

¥ Dual Language: Tara Badoni, 1st Place -- "The Ocean at Night" teacher Lolita Tohannie; Daynon Tohannie, Honorable Mention -- "I am from a Place Called", teacherLolita Tohannie; Angela Neztsosie, Honorable Mention, "A Quiet Place" teacher Lolita Tohannie.

¥ 6th Grade: Jasmine Laughter, 1st Place -- "The Inner Me" teacher Judy Reinoso; Marquette Yazzie, 3rd Place -- "The Old Man" teacher Jan Brockman

¥ Dual Language: Devon Peslakai, 1st Place "Sad Silence", teacher Jan Brockman

Winners for the Coconino County contest were honored publicly at the Coconino Center for the Arts in Flagstaff on May 9.
