Levyna Ben scored 7 pts. last week against the Snowflake Lobos.

The Snowflake Lady Lobos defeated the Winslow Lady Bulldogs 54-46 in a quarterfinal game of the Arizona State 3A Conference Basketball Tournament at Flagstaff on Friday.

The win sent Snowflake into the semi-finals against the Ganado Lady Hornets in Glendale on Friday, Feb. 24. The Lady Lobos improved their season record to 29-4 while Winslow ended its season with a 21-10 mark.

Snowflake led the entire game after jumping out to a 13-5 first quarter advantage. The margin was 31-19 at the intermission. Winslow made a serious dent in the Snowflake lead in the third quarter and trailed only 38-34 entering the final period.

The Lady Bulldogs got the lead down to two points in the fourth quarter, but fell back again in the closing minutes.

The Lady Lobos got most of their scoring from two players as Misti Caldwell and Chelsea Montgomery tied for game high honors with 20 points each. Winslow was led by Bencita Johnson who finished with 14 points. Arveda Yazzie was also in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points.

The Lady Bulldogs had a slight advantage at the charity stripe where they were 15 of 22. Snowflake was 12 of 24.

The key to the game may have been Snowflake's defense of the three-point shot. Winslow made only one super shot, usually one of the team's strengths, while the Lady Lobos connected on four such shots.

Winslow had reached the quarterfinals with a 78-59 win over Fountain Hills on Thursday. Snowflake had advanced with an 83-42 pasting of Globe.

Ganado advanced with a 53-43 win over Seton Catholic after a 71-40 victory over Sedona. The Lady Hornets are one of three 3A North Region teams still alive in the girls' tournament.

Monument Valley and Tuba City will meet in the other semi-final game on Friday. Monument Valley defeated Round Valley 72-50 after ousting Estrella Foothills 81-31 in the opening round. Tuba City defeated Parker in its first test and ousted Alchesay 71-56 to earn its berth in the semi-finals.
