Martin S. Rubi

Holy Rosary for Martin S. Rubi, M.S., M.Ed., 40, who died on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at his home in El Paso, Texas, will be held on Thursday. Feb. 9, 2006, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winslow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, at the church, with Father Robert Mathieu officiating. Interment will be in Desert View Cemetery in Winslow.

Martin was born on July 30, 1965, in Winslow. Martin attended Winslow High School, and graduated as the valedictorian of the Class of 1983.

He completed two undergraduate degrees at Northern Arizona University in the fields of psychology and sociology. He continued his educational endeavors at NAU and received master's degrees in applied sociology and education.

He will always be remembered by those who loved him as a scholar and a teacher. He also enjoyed painting with his longtime friend, James Sawyer.

Survivors include his grandmother, Vicenta "Nana" Alarid; one brother, Arthur Jr.; one sister, Gina M. Rubi-Chavez; three nephews, Anthony Robi, Arthur Rubi III and Anthony Chavez; and three nieces, Evelyn Rubi, and Adrianne and Tessa Chavez.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Evelyn Rubi; and his brother, Michael A. Rubi.
