Lady Bulldogs have winning week

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Window Rock Lady Scouts 48-33 in the final 3A North Region regular season basketball game of the season in Window Rock on Friday.

The win gave Winslow an 18-8 regular season record and a 10-4 record in the region. Window Rock finished with a 13-12 season record and a 5-9 regional record.

The Lady Bulldogs will host a regional quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against an opponent to be determined on Tuesday. Window Rock will play an elimination game on Tuesday which it must win in order to reach the quarterfinals.

Winslow had only a slim 9-7 lead after the first quarter, but had stretched the margin to 27-17 by the intermission. The Lady Bulldogs continued to pull away in the third period and led 43-26 going into the final period of play.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Ganado Lady Hornets 66-44 in Winslow on Thursday.

Ganado led 11-10 after the first quarter, but the rest of the contest belonged to Winslow. The Lady Bulldogs were in front 24-19 at the intermission and 47-36 after three quarters. A devastating full court press in the third period turned a close game into a rout for Winslow.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Tuba City Lady Warriors 63-58 in Winslow on Jan. 31.

On a night in which Coach Don Petranovich was honored by the naming of the gymnasium for him, the Lady Bulldogs delivered an emotional victory number 662 for the most winning coach in the state.

Tuba City scored the first seven points of the game, but Winslow led 18-14 by the time the first quarter ended. The second quarter was big for Winslow as the Lady Bulldogs took a 39-22 half-time lead. The second half belonged to the Lady Warriors who narrowed the margin to 50-39 in the third period and closed to within two possessions in the closing seconds.
