Monument Valley wrestling results

On Jan. 28. Monument Valley High School competed at the Tuba City JV round robin Tournament.

Match weights and winners were: 105-Dustin Speck 2-0, 105-Nicholas Hardy 1-1, 114-Julio Kaye 5-0, 189-Ella White 3-0, 173-Eric Clitso 2-2 154-Sandy Speck 2-2, 173-Tashina Salt 0-4., 162-Evan Todachine 4-0, 217-Joshua Hoshnic 1-1, 137-Antonio Anagal 2-1, 132-Celeste Thomas 1-2, 147-Frances Barlow 1-3, 147 Tony Freeman 4-1, 147-Debe Brady 3-1, 147-Patrick Succo 4-0, 127-Joseph Begay 2-1and 121-Wilda Peshlakai 1-1

Evan Todachine pinned all four of his opponents enroute to an undefeated day. Julio Kaye defeated five opponents and Patrick Succo defeated four as well. Debe Brady defeated two male wrestlers. Ella White, Sandy Speck, and Frances Barlow charged up after victories over male opponents as well. The Mustangs were well represented on the day. Chinle, Tuba City, Greyhills, Gallup, Chino Valley were all represented at the tournament.

On Jan. 24, the Mustang wrestling team captured another victory this season with a 43-27 win over Region opponent Ganado.

Varsity match winners were Daniel Begay, Michael Johnson, LeVaughn Hunt, Chee Binali, Ty Sells, Alias Curley, Tyren Glasses, Myron Brady and Corgerick Glasses.

Myron Brady defeated Alex Tsosie in a 8-7 decision, which was one of the more nerve racking matches of the night.

JV Winners include: Julio Kaye, Dustin Speck, Debe Brady, Benson Charlie, Lyle Yazzie, Joseph Begay and Evan Todachine.

Three seniors were also honored on the evening: Chee Binali, son of Lorraine Benally and Joe Salt; Samferd Glasses, son of Sam and Corena Glasses; and Earl Whitewater, son of Eddie and Eilene Whitewater. Congratulations to these four year varsity wrestlers.

On Feb 4 11:30 a.m., the Monument Valley Mustangs will host the 3A North Region Championships.
