Re: Funds for National Jr. Olympic Cross-country Meet

Hello, my name is Coach Rick Krause. I teach elementary physical education at Moencopi Day School, a small school in Tuba City. Last year I decided to start a cross-country and track club for our area. Thus, TCM (Tuba City/Moencopi) Rez Runners became our club name. The majority of our club members are Native American kids, ages 7 to 12 years old. The first year we had 17 kids run cross-country and seven more ran track and field. Of those 17 kids we took 12 to Denver, Colo. to run in the Junior Olympic Regional meet. One runner qualified to compete at nationals in Rhode Island. This year our number of cross-country runners increased to 25 kids. Twenty-three ran in the regional meet last Saturday in Phoenix. Of those 23 kids, 16 qualified to compete in the National Jr. Olympic Cross-country meet in Spokane, Wash. on Dec. 9 either as an individual or as part of a team.

We are currently trying to raise money so that these kids will have the opportunity to run against the best kids in the United States. I estimate that it will take about three to four hundred dollars per runner (16) and coaches (four) to get them there and back. Therefore, the total cost for them to compete will be between $6,000 and $8,000 dollars. We need to come up with that much as soon as possible to get plane tickets at a reasonable rate.

If you or somebody you know would like to sponsor our club, one of our runners, or just make a donation to help with the expense, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you know anyone that would be able to charter a bus or rent us a couple of 15 passenger vans, we could drive as a last resort.

Please make checks out to TCM Rez Runners.

The kids will greatly appreciate it!!
