WHS Cross Country Teams Fifth at Window Rock Invitational

The Winslow High School cross country teams each finished fifth in the Window Rock Invitational meet held on Sept. 9. Chinle won the boys' meet and Ganado captured the crown in the girls' meet.

Janeen Yazzie was the highest finisher of any Winslow runners, placing second in the girls' meet with a time of 21:10. Elisha Billie was a medalist, finishing 13th with a time of 21:54.

Kyle Whitehair finished first for the Winslow boys, placing sixth overall with a time of 16:50.

Chinle won the boys' meet with a low total of 45 points. Window Rock was second with 115 points, barely edging Blue Ridge with 116 and Ganado with 118. Winslow was fifth with 150. Kirkland, New Mexico was sixth with 167 followed by Monument Valley with 187, Alchesay and Red Mesa with 203 each, Pinon with 227, Holbrook with 256, Greyhills with 278 and Many Farms with 285.

Ganado won the girls' meet with a low total of 81 points, barely ahead of Chinle with 88 and Navajo Prep with 90. Alchesay was fourth with 118 and Winslow was fifth with 131. Window Rock was sixth with 133. Well to the rear was Kirkland with 204, Holbrook with 237, Pinon 238, Blue Ridge 242, Greyhills 294 and Many Farms 325.

The Winslow teams will compete in the Page Invitational on Saturday before hosting the Winslow Invitational on Sept. 28 at 2:30 p.m.
