Seventh graders open with win on the gridiron

Other WJHS teams fall short to start season

The Winslow Junior High athletic teams saw their first action of the season on Thursday against teams from Snowflake. The Winslow seventh grade football team was the only Winslow team to come away with a victory as the eighth grade football team and both the seventh and eighth grade softball teams suffered defeats.

The seventh grade football team came away with a decisive 36-4 victory in a game played at Winslow. The team's next outing will be on Sept. 15 when the Bullpups host Show Low at 3:30 p.m.

The eighth grade football team played at Snowflake and lost by the narrowest of margins 8-6 in a hotly contested game. This Winslow team will again be on the road in its next contest at Show Low at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 15.

The eighth grade softball team lost 11-5 in a game played at Snowflake. The Winslow girls were slated to play at home on Tuesday against Round Valley. The team will play multiple games at Payson in the Rim Country Invitational Tournament on Saturday. Game times were not available at press time.

The seventh grade softball team lost to Snowflake 5-3 in a game played at Winslow. This team was slated to play Round Valley at Eagar on Tuesday and will host Show Low on Sept. 15 at 3:30 p.m.
