JV Bulldogs down Ganado, 45-0

The Winslow High School junior varsity football team ended its home season on a positive note with a 45-0 win over Ganado on Thursday.

The Winslow defense dominated the Ganado offense so that virtually the entire game was played on Ganado's side of the 50-yard line. The Hornets rarely gained yardage and finished with only a couple of first downs to their credit.

Winslow scored the only first quarter touchdown on a 15 yard pass from Art Gonzales to Efrem Kinlacheenie after Anthony Petranovich had recovered a Ganado fumble a play earlier. The conversion run failed and Winslow led 6-0.

Gilbert Romero ran four yards for Winslow's second touchdown on a short drive with 4:19 left until intermission. The conversion run failed and the Bulldogs led 12-0.

The Bulldogs blocked a Ganado punt and recovered the ball a yard from the goal line on the Hornets' next possession. Romero ran for the touchdown on the next play to give the Bulldogs an 18-0 lead after the run for conversion failed.

The Bulldogs scored on the final play of the first half on a 35-yard pass from Gonzales to Kirk Ramsey. Victor Martinez ran for the two-point conversion and a 26-0 half-time lead.

Martinez got the first score of the third quarter on a 10-yard run and Romero booted the conversion that gave the Bulldogs a 33-0 lead.

Paul Guzman ended the third quarter scoring on a six yard pass from Gonzales that gave Winslow a 39-0 lead after the kick hit the cross bar and failed.

Ramsey ran five yards for the final score of the game midway through the fourth period. Romero converted and the 45-0 final was on the scoreboard.

The junior varsity Bulldogs will complete their season at Window Rock on Thursday.
