Boles reviews biggest antecedents, advice for new mayor with Mail

The Winslow Mail recently sat down with Mayor Jim Boles to ask a series of questions. Those questions and answers follow.

Mail: What do you feel were the top accomplishments while you were in office?

Boles: Bringing together a council and staff that worked as a team, made concessions where necessary and in the long haul voted and worked for what was best for the community as a whole.

Mail: What were some of the changes, both positive and negative, in Winslow while you were mayor?

Boles: Fortunately, nothing remains the same. Nothing stands still, but the changes were small and slow, and we were given time to deal with them in a positive nature. Businesses come and go, people move in and leave, people die and are born, but the community stays stable and stability means to some at least less frustration.

Mail: What action that you made do you feel had the biggest impact on Winslow?

Boles: The biggest was the contacts I made outside of Winslow in the region, state and national levels.

Mail: As a citizen of Winslow, where would you like to see the city go?

Boles: I would like to see Winslow go where it wants to go. If I could wave a wand and make one change it would be small. I would have all the vocal negative antagonists suddenly make recommendations or suggestions for improvement rather than criticism on the actions of those who are working to solve existing problems.

Mail: With all the experience you've gained while in office, what advice would you give to Mr. Affeldt?

Boles: If you are not willing to spend the time and make the contacts that have to be made in this global economy, then you are simply treading water. Changes will come, good or bad, whether you do anything or not.
