Winslow High School cross country star Janeen Yazzie finished as the medalist in the girls' 3A North Region meet held on Oct. 29 at Ganado. Yazzie finished well ahead of the next closest runner with a time of 18:56.94. Tiffany Sorrell of Window Rock was second with a time of 19:14.69. The next three runners were all from team champion Ganado. They were Marilyn Curley, Alandria Reid and Tierra Blacksheep. Ganado had five runners place in the top 10 finishers.
Matt Lamson of Hopi High School was the medalist in the boys' meet with a time of 16:22.92. Second place went to Derreck Spencer of Window Rock with a time of 16:40.15. The top finisher for the Winslow boys' team was Kyle Whitehair who placed sixth with a time of 17:02.81.
The Winslow High School girls' cross country team finished fourth in the 3A North Region meet held on Oct. 29 at Ganado. The Winslow boys' team finished fifth in the boy's meet.
Ganado won the girls' meet with a low score of 31 followed by Hopi with 72, Window Rock with 80, Winslow with 83, Chinle with 85 and Tuba City with 147. Monument Valley and Greyhills did not qualify for team scores.
Tuba City won the boys' meet with a low score of 48 followed by Chinle with 58, Ganado with 61, Hopi with 109, Winslow with 139, Monument Valley with 142, Window Rock with 158 and Greyhills with 297.
Other Winslow girls were Mary Ricks 17th, Chaunasea Singer 19th, Shylah James 21st, Elisha Billie 26th, Colleen Bahe 37th and Kelly Saganey 43rd.
Other Winslow boys were Wilburt Barton 23rd, O'Leary Yazzie 31st, Cedric Yazzie 37th, Eric Navenma 42nd, Jared Dickson 45th and Casey Hancock 53rd.
