Girls win Mohave meet, boys fifth

The Winslow High School girls’ track team finished first in the Mohave Invitational Track Meet at Lake Havasu on March 12. The Winslow boys’ team finished fifth.

In the girls’ meet, Winslow finished with 119 points to 114.5 for second place Mohave, 82 for third place Kingman and 181 for fourth place El Dorado. Lake Havasu was fifth with a score of 76 followed by Las Vegas Mohave at 52, Lund with 40.5, Seligman with 19 and Parker with 15 points.

El Dorado won the boys’ meet with 131 points followed by Kingman with 120, Lake Havasu with 86, Las Vegas Mohave with 83, Winslow with 76, Mohave with 56, Ashfork with 22, River Valley with 18, Seligman with 10 and Parker with six.

The Winslow girls’ 400 meter relay team finished first in their event. Team members included Haley Braits, Stephanie Garnett, Nicole Buonviri and Chanel Renfro.

Garnett won the long jump with a leap of 18.05. Carlos Quezada won the boys’ triple jump with a distance of 40.07 and was second in the 300 meter hurdles and third in the 110 meter hurdles.

Lillian Hancock was second in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles and third in the high jump. Renfro was second in the girls’ 100 and 200 meter dashes. Karla Curley was second in the girls’ 800 and 1600 meter races. Kyle Whitehair was second in the boys’ 800 meters and fifth in the 1600 meters.

Elighal Yazzie was third in the girls’ 3200 meters and sixth in the 800 meters. Corey Dean was third in the boys’ shot put.

Nick Anderson was fourth in the boys’ discus and in the 110 meter hurdles. Antoinette Pasque was fourth in the girls’ discus. Arthur Gonzales was fourth in the boys’ 400 meters. Mary Ricks was fourth in the girls’ 3200 meters and eighth in the 1600 meters.

Nadine Gene was fifth in the girls’ shot put. Marc Koll was fifth in the boys’ 300 meter hurdles.

Shylah James was sixth in the girls’ 1600 meters. Braits was sixth in the girls’ 100 meters and eighth in the long jump.

Derick Thompson was seventh in the boys’ 3200 meters and eighth in the 800 and 1600 meters. Hattie Peterson was seventh in the girls’ long jump. Joe Ricks was seventh in the boys’ 1600 meters.
