Boys finish second at home meet

The Winslow High School boys’ track team finished second in a five team meet held at Winslow on Wednesday. The team result of the girls’ meet was not reported. Snowflake won the boys’ meet with a score of 129 to 111.5 for Winslow and 84 for Blue Ridge. Scores for Hopi and Joseph City schools were not available.

Winslow boys who won their events included Joseph Ricks in the 3200 meters, Orlando Vargas in the pole vault, Cory Dean in the shot put, Carlos Quezada in the triple jump and the high jump, Art Gonzales in the 200 meters and Nick Anderson in the discus. The 3200 meter relay team also won its event.

Anderson finished second in the 110 meter high hurdles. Vargas was second in the long jump and the triple jump and Clint MacLean was runner-up in the discus.

Winslow third place finishers included Derrick Thompson in the 1600 meters, Quezada in the 300 meter low hurdles and Kyle Whitehair in the 800 meters.

Winslow girls who won their events included the 3200 meter relay team, the 400 meter relay team, Alana Alexander in the 400 meters, Chanel Renfro in the 200 meters, the 1600 meter relay team, A. Pouge in the discus, Lillian Hancock in the high jump, Stephanie Garnett in the long jump and N. Gene in the shot put.

Winslow girls who finished second included Renfro in the 100 meters, E. Billy in the 1600 meters, the 1600 meter relay team, Dean Cole in the discus, Garnett in the high jump, T. Foster in the triple jump and Hancock in the pole vault.

Third place finishers included Alexander in the 200 meters, Gene in the discus and Foster and Hagan tied for third in the pole vault.
