The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Seton Catholic Lady Sentinels 61-35 to win the Arizona State 3A Conference Girls’ Basketball Championship for the second year in succession.
Winslow led 9-6 after a low scoring first period. A 10-2 Winslow run to start the second quarter gave the Lady Bulldogs a double-digit lead. The lead was a still comfortable 25-17 at the intermission.
Arveda Yazzie came off the bench to score four quick points and put Winslow up by 14 at the 4:41 mark of the third period. The Lady Bulldogs continued to pull away and took a 19-point lead, 43-24, into the final period.
Lindsey Begaii led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points. Bencita Johnson with 12 points and Levyna Ben with 11 were also in double figures for Winslow. Arveda Yazzie added nine points.
Christina Wirth was the whole offense for Seton Catholic with 27 points. Only two other Lady Sentinels scored.
Begaii, Garnett and Ben were named to the All Tournament Team following the game as were Wirth and Warburton for Seton Catholic.
Winslow finished the season with a 27-5 record. Seton Catholic finished the season 28-7.

Winslow 59, Tuba City 45
The Winslow Lady Bulldogs advanced to the finals of the Arizona State 3A Conference Girls’ Basketball Championship Tournament with a 59-45 win over the Tuba City Lady Warriors in Glendale on Friday. The win sent Winslow into the final game against Seton Catholic with a 26-5 record. Tuba City ended its season with a 21-10 record.
The Lady Bulldogs led 13-11 after a slow first quarter start, but had pulled out to a 31-20 advantage by the intermission. The Warriors were never able to close the gap to single digits.
Levyna Ben led all scorers with 22 points for Winslow. Bencita Johnson was also in double figures with 14 points. Lindsey Begaii scored nine points for the victors.
Kimberly Tsinnie finished in double figures for Tuba City with 13 points.
