CCC's student loans expected to bring $1 million to county
FLAGSTAFF -- For the first time ever, Coconino Community College will participate in the Federal Family Education Loan Program this fall, action that is expected to bring more than $1 million to Coconino County.
CCC officials say the college made the decision to participate in the program to meet the needs of students who are struggling with the financial demands of earning a living and going to school.
"Some of our new programs, such as nursing and fire science, are more costly for students than other programs," said Director for Financial Aid and Veteran Services
Patt Sprengeler. "We want to continue to be able to provide access to higher education, yet many students who struggle financially do not qualify for need-based financial aid."
The Federal Family Education Loan Program is attractive to students because it offers loans with low interest rates. Sprengeler says CCC is working with local and national lenders to facilitate the loan process. The college is expected to be ready to participate in the program by mid-July.
