TUBA CITY -- Dedicated to the education, character building, advancement and support of students.
Working for Tuba City District servicing young adults is not only honorable, but time consuming, never ending and immeasurably rewarding according to the long term employees who were honored at this year's Staff Recognition Banquet held May 19 at Warrior Pavilion complete with a steak dinner, entertainment and special personalized inscribed gifts marking their years of service.
Fellow staffers, TCUSD administration and board members recognized TCUSD employees who have dedicated their lives to serving students in the hopes that they will continue onto better lives and a heightened sense of community commitment to the Native community and world at this special dinner.
Six TCUSD employees retired this year, Barbara Ashley from Tuba City Primary, Priscilla Piestewa from Tuba City Junior High School, Genevieve Blatchford from TCJH, Hilda Williams from TCJH, Terry Piestewa from TC Maintenance Department and Arnold Yellowhorse from TC Maintenance Department.
Each of these retirees were presented with Pendleton blankets and given personally inscribed plaques to hang on their walls that noted their dedication, excellence in pursuit of education for students and dedication to the betterment of students at their service area.
"These six people are shining examples of what exemplary service to students is all about," said TCUSD Superintendent Dr. Hector Tahu.
Two TCUSD employees were also recognized for 35 years of service to the District, Priscilla Piestewa, TCJH, Aggie Jenkins, TC District Office. Earl Blackhair, TC Maintenance Department, was recognized for 30 years of service to TCUSD.
Each of these 35 year employees were recognized as extremely knowledgeable about their positions, exhibiting the highest professional attitude and execution about their job assignments, which results in smooth operations internally at the administrative level.
Employees at TCUSD were also recognized starting at the 5 Year, 10 Year, 15 Year and 20 Year and 25 Year Award Level.

¥ 25 years--Imogene Honyumptewa, Geraldine Nuvayestewa, Sonia Rojo, Ina Talayumptewa, Billy Williams, Evelyn M. Yazzie, Jeanetta Klain and Ann Kewevoyouma.
¥ 20 years--Stella Begay, Linda Kerley, Margaret Grimes, Margaret Leatherbury, William LongReed, George Begaye, Nolan Dempsey, Evelena Sombrero, Belinda Begaye and Bennie James.
¥ 15 years--Sherry M. Lehi, Martha Dugi, Veronica Aronilth, Avis Macktima, Stella Goldtooth, Darlene Kewanwytewa, Sally Yellow, Renee Nelson, Rena Jefferson and Ray Lee Begay.
¥ 10 Years--Michael Gould, Sonora Isaac, Ruby Tallsalt, Evelyn Spencer and Nancy Dohi, Sally Nez.
¥ 5 years--Belinda Goldtooth, Bryan Yazzie, Vonnie Atene, Dennis Bowen, Beverly Sherman, Karolyn Charley, Stella Begay, Trerena Ignacio, Brenda Lee Norris, LoRetta A. Saganitso, Barry L. Silverstein, Rochelle Thomas, Marion Weiland, Chalene Lee, Janie Kewenvoyouma, Clarissa A.
