FBC Block Party date moved to next week
If you have a good thing going, then why wait to enjoy it? Although it's been just nine months since the last First Baptist Church Community Block Party, it's time to celebrate again.
The 5th annual Block Party has been moved to Saturday, June 25 so the church can take advantage of the community's support and sign up children for the summer Vacation Bible School that begins the following week.
The focus of the party is on children and so is the Vacation Bible School so it seemed a perfect to combine the events. Children as young as 5 through those attending the sixth grade can participate in the Bible school, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday (June 27-July1).
The Block Party is free and open to the entire community. It runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and includes breakfast this year ‹ pancakes, bacon, sausage and juice. Clothing will be given away while supplies last. There will be free popcorn and cotton candy, free midway games, X-treme games, water fun, music and entertainment.
For those looking for a peaceful, quiet place to get away, there will be a prayer garden ‹ as well as volunteers who will pray with you if you would like.
The Block Party is endorsed by the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention as well as the Desert Pines Southern Baptist Association. More than $4,000 is spent to provide this day of family fun-filled entertainment. The Winslow High School Varsity Football team volunteers their time and muscle to help clean up at the end of the day.
Attendance last year was 875 people. Free meals were provided to those in attendance and a free clothing giveaway was held in the church's Fellowship Hall, where 650 boxes of clothing and other goods were distributed. Drawings for door prizes were held throughout the day.
The church is located at 411 N. Warren Avenue. For more information on the ministries of the First Baptist Church or the Block Party and Vacation Bible School, call the church office at 1-928-289-2484.
