Aker spent 30 years in professional baseball, 11 of those years as a pitcher in the major leagues. He came to the Oakland Athletics in 1964 as a relief pitcher and appeared in nine games. He spent the next four years with Oakland and recorded a five year record of 19 wins and 21 losses. His best season with Oakland was 1966 when he won eight games and lost four.
He spent part of 1969 with the Seattle Pilots, and then joined the New York Yankees for the remainder of the season. He lost two games with the Pilots but won eight and lost four with the Yankees. Aker spent three more years with New York, winning 16 games and losing 10.
Aker's first year in the National League was 1972 with the Chicago Cubs where he finished with a 6-6 record. He had one more year in Chicago, winning four games and losing five.
His final two years in the majors were spent with the Atlanta Braves.
Over his major league career, Aker combined for a 47-45 record with an impressive earned run average (ERA) of 3.28.
Winslow youth who have the opportunity to attend one of these clinics will likely find it to be a worthwhile experience. Aker has the credentials and is willing to share his knowledge and expertise.
