Indian Education grants awarded

Northern Arizona University, DinŽ College and the Page Unified School District, all in Arizona, have been selected to receive grants to provide training programs to graduate new American Indian teachers and school administrators, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings announced July 1.

Northern Arizona University will receive $256,364, DinŽ College will receive $242,605 and the Page Unified School District will receive $265,689.

"With these grants, we do more than ask for excellence, we provide the tools to create it," said Secretary Spellings. "Young children will be better prepared to learn in the earliest grades. And young adults will be better prepared to succeed in the challenging fields of math and science. No Child Left Behind means exactly that. We want to open up new worlds of opportunity for Indian families and communities."

The grant award is part of the Office of Indian Education's Professional Development program, which trains qualified individuals to become teachers and administrators in Indian communities.
