Recall election totals amended
City Clerk receives Howell petition Friday with 252 valid signatures

The recall election for Mayor Jim Boles and Council member Judy Howell is still a go, however, the number of signatures verified by the Navajo County Elections Department is lower than previously reported.

Due to a miscommunication between a spokesperson for the county department and the Winslow Mail, the county approved 249 signatures on a petition to recall Boles and not 310, which was the amount forwarded to the Elections Department. The Elections Department found 61 signatures were invalid on the petition.

Sixteen of the 268 signatures were invalid on the petition for Howell leaving 252 valid.

Only 229 signatures were needed to force a recall on Boles and 245 for Howell. City Council will decide whether to hold an all-mail ballot or an on-site election.

Council should approve an elecion date at the July 13 meeting.

Candidates can pick up nomination forms one day after Coucnil sets the date.

City Clerk Suzy Wetzel said she received the petitions with the corrected total on Howell from the county on Friday.
