Lady Bulldogs blow out Eagles, Hornets, but lose to Mustangs<br>

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs soundly defeated the Pinon Lady Eagles 87-13 in a 3A North Region basketball game played at Pinon on Saturday. The win improved Winslow’s record to 14-4 for the season and 5-2 in the region.

The Lady Bulldogs established their dominance early as they built a 23-4 first period lead that had expanded to 56-7 by the intermission. The margin was a huge 74-12 after three quarters.

Bencita Johnson and Lindsey Begaii each outscored the entire Pinon team with 31 and 19 points respectively. Johanna Begay was also in double figures with 11 points.

Winslow was slated to host Window Rock on Monday and Hopi on Tuesday in a busy week of basketball. The Lady Bulldogs will play Greyhills at Tuba City on Thursday and Window Rock at Window Rock on Saturday. Winslow will host games against Pinon on Monday, Jan. 31 and against Ganado on Tuesday, Feb. 1.

Mustangs 58, Bulldogs, 45

The Monument Valley Lady Mustangs defeated the Winslow Lady Bulldogs 58-45 in a 3A North Region basketball game played in Winslow on Friday. The victory left Monument Valley in command of the 3A North Region with a perfect 8-0 record in the region and a 13-2 record for the season.

The Lady Mustangs raced to a 16-6 first quarter advantage and led 33-18 at the intermission. Winslow scored only three field goals in the first half with 11 of their 18 points coming from the charity stripe. Monument Valley continued to pull away in the third quarter, leading by as many as 21 points at one time before settling for a 52-34 advantage entering the final frame.

Samantha Harrison came off the bench for the Lady Mustangs to score 18 points and lead all players. She was the only Monument Valley player in double figures. Lindsey Begaii led Winslow with 14 points.

Bulldogs 69, Hornets, 45

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Ganado Lady Hornets 69-45 in a 3A North Region basketball game played at Ganado on Jan. 18. Ganado fell to 13-8 for the season and 6-2 in the region.

Winslow assumed control of the game in the second period after the teams had battled to a 17-17 tie after the first period. The Lady Bulldogs led 36-27 at the intermission and put the game away in the third quarter, which ended with Winslow boasting a commanding 52-30 advantage.

Bencita Johnson took game scoring honors with 18 points for Winslow. Johanna Begay was also in double figures with 17 points and Lindsey Begaii and Levyna Ben each scored nine for the victors.

Gabrielle Curtis paced Ganado with 13 points. Jocelyn Benally was also in double figures with 10 points.
